Plantronics DSP400 Foldable Multimedia Headset

The USB headset that we use and give to our guests for crystal clear Skype calls.

Most of what we do here at TWiT uses Skype in one form or another. We have business meetings on Skype, we call each other on Skype, and our co hosts and guests call into our shows with Skype.

We are very big on clear call audio.

This is the Plantronics headset that we give or send to our guests when we need them to call into the show. Rather than messing with their headsets, or trying to trick it into giving us better audio, we just give these things out like candy.

Not only is it light and comfortable, but it has a long boom for the microphone to be right in front of your mouth, helping to hear you clearly, and not hear your surroundings. Combine that with a clear microphone and the headset is a nice piece of reasonably priced audio equipment.

But you know where the real secret sauce comes in? The little USB adapter that plugs into your computer. Its not so much that this is a USB microphone, all microphones are analog. In reality its essentially a USB sound card that takes the microphone and headphone ports and then translates them into digital audio before going into the computer.

This is precisely what your sound card does, but this USB adapter does a better job, because it is far more isolated from the internal noise of your computer, less of an issue for music, but a huge problem for voice.

If you make Skype phone calls, then this is the headset you want.

It works on Apples and PCs.
