Apple Cinema 30-inch HD Flat-Panel Display
The single most important upgrade you can do to your computer, is to upgrade the display.
A large part of the TWiT fan base is made up of Apple users. One very nice feature of Apple computers is that they adopted DVI monitor far earlier across their line than most PC manufacturers. With a few exceptions, like Power PC Mac Mini's and such, most DVI macs you will see out there today can power a 30 inch monitor out of the box, in full 2560 x 1600 glory.
What does this mean for you?
First off, it has been statistically shown that without any other part coming close, that a larger monitor will make you noticeably more productive on your machine.
More importantly however, until you have actually sat in front of a 30" monitor, you may not understand just how massive... and in turn immersive they can be. Remember, when you make a monitor larger diagonally, the total screen area goes up drasticly.
A 24" LCD has 2,304,000 pixels on its screen.
A 30" LCD has 4,096,000 pixels on its screen.
The increase in actual usable space over a 24" is huge, and will allow you to go from running one or two of your programs on your screen at a time... to quite possibly keeping ALL of your programs on the screen at one time.
If you have a Macbook pro, this is a must have upgrade. Your computer is more than powerful enough to function as a desktop replacement, however even a 17" screen will make you resort to window shuffling. If you add a 30" onto your notebook, you can have BOTH screens running at the same time.
Also, as you may have noticed, a monitor will far outlast the functional lifespan of a computer. The 30" Cinema Display was release five years ago, roughly arund the time that Apple transitioned to Intel processors, and nobody has topped it since.
You will get far more millage out of a display than any other computer part.
If you are looking to improve your computing experience, and keep with your Apple aesthetic, the Apple 30" inch is THE product to drop your cash on.
